Built in 1878 and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on three sides, with 18 holes of links golf, hiking and running trails (including an Oceanside Cliff Walk past the studio of renouned Prouts Neck painter Winslow Homer), literally miles of sandy beaches, tennis, a swimming pool and beach club, the Black Point Inn is legendary for its location, guest facilities, and unpretentious downeast hospitality. You can enjoy cocktails on the porch as you watch the sunset over the water with Mount Washington on the horizon. or sit by the fire in the Chart Room. Sample the culinary delights in The Point, our highly acclaimed fine dining restaurant, or more casual fare in the Chart Room - both dining rooms overlook the ocean. In addition, the Atlantic Room and the Winslow Homer Room offer Oceanside dining for private parties from 10 to 50 people. Our sumptuous menus change on a daily basis in The Point and on a  seasonal basis in the Chart Room (see Chart Room menu), ensuring that only the freshest ingredients from local farms are used. 

The Black Point Inn offers 25 luxury guest rooms and suites, all with private bath, ocean or bay views, and many with private decks and all weather wicker furniture. The Black Point Inn has been extensively renovated throughout its history to ensure comfort while preserving its historic character. Today, original wall coverings, paintings, prints and décor have been lovingly restored, with many of the antiques featured original to the Inn.

The Black Point Inn is home to an array of delightful spaces that make it easy to enjoy splendid solitude, an intimate conversation, or mix and mingle. Throughout the seasons, you'll be greeted by the perfume of fresh flowers, and the crackle of freshly lit hearths within the Inn's gathering rooms.  During the summer and early fall you can swim in, or just lounge next to, the Inn's geothermally heated outdoor pool. In late fall, walk the miles of sandy beaches surrounding the Inn, hike the "Prouts Neck Cliff Walk" and view the scenes and time of year most favored by, and immortalized in the paintings of, Winslow Homer, or just sit by the fire and sip seasonal wines from our extensive wine list.

 

 


A 15-minute drive from downtown Portland, the Black Point is a Maine classic. Situated on 9 acres on a point with views along the coast both north and south, the inn was built as a summer resort in 1873, in an area enshrined in some of the work of noted painter Winslow Homer.
